Default Pregnancy just before Medicals

Hi,
The form 160EH states-

"A pregnant visa applicant should firstly contact the department to discuss her options, including the possible deferral of her visa application."

Query is, if the pregnancy is in the very initial stages, and she informs DIAC, is it possible that CO will waive the X-ray requirement and go ahead with visa grant? OR is it always the case that DIAC simply puts the case on hold until delivery EVEN IF it means keeping it on hold for another 9 months?

Thanks.

Thanks, Hari. So are you saying that for your wife no chest x-ray was taken and still the Visa grant was given because she was pregnant? I have a couple of queries:

a. May I ask how many weeks/ months pregnant was your wife? Had she just conceived?
b. Did you inform DIAC that the Xray was not done because your wife was pregnant or was it that all such information was part of the Medical Report?

Thanks again.

The xray is not exempted but postponed. It still has to be done at a later date and only in limited circumstances will the visa be issued without it ie onshore applicants who may have had previous medicals for their current visa and have not been outside of Australia since.

Brilliant. Thanks, Shel. I know where I stand now. Bottomline is, if one is offshore, then a chest X-ray is absolutely mandatory. Alternative is defer the visa grant for after child is delivered.
Wife and I have been reading on various medical forums that a diagnostic x-ray poses no significant risk and one can go ahead with it during the very initial stages of pregnancy. Of course, we are going to consult the doctor separately as well.
Thanks again.

Xrays for women under 3 months pregnant are quite dangerous. No clinic or reputable doctor would give a pregnant woman an xray unless absolutely necessary ie medical need and health of the mother at risk.

After 3 months the risk not so great but mum will still have to wear a lead shield vest to try and protect the baby, but again most clinics wouldn't do it, not here in the UK anyway.

Much better to get child on to the visa if it is not possible to give birth in Australia as PR. Otherwise a lengthy child visa needs to be applied for.

I don't understand, you mean get the wife on a temporary visa to Australia?
But if she is part of the dependent in the original application, the whole case will go on hold till the medical is done, or am I getting this wrong?

No my wife was not pregnant at that time.
They just asked her as a caution before taking X-ray.
