Hi, as a family we are in the process of applying for a visa for whyalla in south austrlia. what we are really wanting for find out now is what the cost of living is like compared with the uk. we'd like to know house ins. for an average 4 bed property, car ins, what rates are like etc. if anyone can help or have details of a web address to try for this info it would be great. cheers !

Gday guys. Insurance for an average house - At $250,000 house and $100,000 contents you would be paying about $65-$75 per month, car you would have to get quote as they vary so much between cars. I use RAA (automobile association) for all mine, they are reasonably priced and the more policies ,car, house, contents etc the cheaper. but most companies are similar. Have you found a house yet? A good site to browse is Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au, they have 95%of all agent listings.
Average house rates in country towns would be about $500 -$800 year, I'm out of touch with water rates as we pump our own.
