Default credit crunch/ bank charges

So cross.
Got a statement today from our mortgage lender...............for which they want to charge us £15..............

It details our payments from Jan 08; fine i hear you cry......but wait......

I requested a REFERENCE from them stating that we paid our mortgage, on time, every month, had NEVER reneged on payment, were not in debt and so not a risk to credit services!!!!

Our bank have given us what we asked for a REFERENCE about our financial status etc.............free of charge!

We get a statement every few months from our mortgage company, free of charge;;;;;;;why can't they just get a simple thing right???

i AM not PAYING..........THEY CAN GET LOST.........

I had to get a mortgage statement from my lender too (Standard Life) and they too charged me £15 (I thought paying them £600 a month INTEREST ONLY was plenty but apparently not!!) This was to prove to my case officer that I make regular payments, haven't increased the total amount to put cash in my bank (apparently some people have got away with doing this?! ) etc. My deadline was next Tuesday so I ordered on Monday last week. By Thursday it still hadn't arrived so I called again and they said wait til Friday and hopefully it'd be with me. Friday post came and - nothing! Called them again and they said hopefully it'll arrive over the weekend... I said NO WAY! If it didn't arrive Saturday when I call Monday it would be too late (they'd already given me the whole 'we can't fax or email' schpiel! REally? in this day and age??!)So the very helpful man at SL said he'd send one out Friday, Special Delivery, guaranteed for Monday. It arrived today - along with 3 (yes three!) other copies!! At least I'm buying 1 getting 3 free I suppose! Shouldn't complain! Now just need to scan the 8 pages and get it to my visa agent! Still - by Tuesday everything should be with my case officer in Perth then we just play the waiting game.....

Hi

So why are you getting a reference is it for renting in Oz? or do you also need one for a bank account. Ive been so busy with sorting my house out for selling that i havent really looked into stuff like banking etc.

Hi Hels;
in summary; the rental agents we spoke to have said the more evidence of good financial history; not being a bad debtor etc.....the better our chances will be of securing a decent property in a decent area. Although funding is not the issue, some form of reference from a bank; mortgage lender or former landlord is a bonus!!
On top, we should also provide a letter from my (new) employers, or a job offer letter (phew) to confirm employment.

With all the paperwork required, i might have been better to secure an ozzy mortgage, FIRB approval etc......
Have a good day
Jane
