Default Brisbane Question

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone in the Brisbane area could do me a favour.

At the moment Im working on the assuption I am most likely to find a job in Brisbane City (I work in Recruitment). Im not a fan of living in appartments, so I've been browsing realestate(dot)com(dot)au to get an idea of costs for houses for rent & buy etc.

Was i was really hoping that someone could list all towns/suberbs (however it would appear on a website such as realestate) that would fall within a 1 hour commute (by car) of Brisbane City?

Your help is very much appreciated

Also on a side note, naturally my assumption is Brisbane being a city would be the most likely location for businesses etc (and thus a requirement for recruitment companies). I watched one of the "wanted down under" episiodes where a family was shown a location on the gold cost I believe (goldenbeach or something I think). Can someone tell me if there is an equivilant "built up business" area in the gold cost region at all? As this would greatly assist my search as to living in the gold coast area is achieveable.

Thank you and apologies if this has been answered before, but couldnt find it on a search!

Tom

Hi Tom,
Sorrry we have not replied earlier but have been away for a few days.
There are numerous excellent suburbs around Brisbane, maybe you could consider several things to narrow down your search ie:- Do you want to be close to the Coast? or more Inland? bearing in mind coastal areas are usually cooler due to bay breezes.
Do you have preference for North or South of Brisbane?
Do you like to socialise, there are some new areas which has minimal social life
North close to Sunshine coast, South closer to Gold Coast, visit Home | ourbrisbane.com and click on suburbs this will give you a clearer picture of areas.
Most recruitment agencies are based in Brisbane, but there are several on the Gold Coast again visit SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site this will give you idea on employment
Hope this helps Tom, it is a good idea when over here to drive around and get a feel for different areas, as sometimes things look different over the internet.
If you need any further information please dont hesitate to contact us. Good luck

Well, I don't know about the OP but I would love to hear about the good/bad suburbs, near the coast please? It's so hard when you don't know the areas.

We love semi-rural by preference, and my OH is an IT consultant (and have found some sites with attractive job opportunities, but we aren't yet in a position to proceed).

Thanks

Hi,
We are not sure about suburbs on the North of Brisbane, as we are located South. The following list are the suburbs from the Brisbane River South in order:-
Lytton
Manly
Lota
Thornside
Birkdale
Wellington Point
Ormiston
Cleveland
Thornlands
Victoria Point
Redland Bay
All seem to be good suburbs but would be a good idea to look at Home | ourbrisbane.com click on suburbs this will give you a clearer picture.
Good Luck

That's really helpful, thank you.

I have had a look and bookmarked the ourbrisbane site, but I would also like to know a bit about areas such as North Lakes, Redcliffe, Strathpine, that sort of distance.

Do you have any opinions on those please?

Hi,
We have friends at Redcliffe that live on North Lakes and they love the area, there is an excellent lagoon on the sea front, lots of nice restaurants and very family orientated. Some people have nicknamed the area "Little Britain", but cannot pass judgement on this. There is a vast amount of new build in the area where the houses are very enclosed, which personally was not for us. Sorry dont know about Strathpine, hopefully someone will be able to give you more information. Hope this helps

I am also using realestate dot com dot au for a house hunt. At the same time I am using google maps and google street view.

I zoom in enough to get an overview of an area of Birsbane and see the suburb names, then click the names on the real estate webpage. Once I scroll through the list and find a place that seems okay, I use streetview to check out the house and the area. It will also show exactly how close to shops, the beach, train station etc it really is.

I love Streetview!!

I've just added the new video links from realestate.com.au into the "PLEASE READ...." post at the top of the forum. Those areas may be included in the videos.

Regards,
Karen
