Does any of you know anything about the cost of studying in Australia ?

And is it possible to move down there to study (that would be me) take my husband and child with me, and then continue on applying for the 175 skilled (that is the one my husband is applying for)
He would be able to get a workpermit while I studied, right ?

I would be covered by the overseas student health cover (OSHC) but is it then possible to get another privat insurance for my arthritis and my husband + child ?

Well, I should be able to get AUD$ 1180 a month from Denmark I have been told, and then if my husband could get a job that would be oki I guess.

Kind regards Mette

Hi Mette

I don't have all the answers to your queries but as far as I know, you are allowed to take your husband and child with you on a study visa. You are entitled to 20 hours paid work per week during your studies and the full 40 hours paid work during vacation. However, your husband will also fall in this category, that is he will also only be able to work 20 hours per week.

Your husband will be able to apply for a work permit if he gets a job there and the company is willing to support him in the application process, in which case he can rather go for the PR application through the Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) application type. You can check that visa type out on the immigration website. I'm sure he can also apply for 175 visa while he's there but I'll confirm that first from the website or with an agent. It's better you have all the possibilities worked out before you decide what you are going to do.

As for the studies cost, that will depend a lot on the course you are doing and the university/college you are going to. You will have to get the costs directly from the uni/college. Usually the minimum you can expect to pay for a diploma is around AUD13000/year for tuition fees. There's a very good sticky about the 'cost of living figures' on this forum. Please check it out and you will get a very good idea of how much you can expect to spend depending on which area you are. If you also want to know how much you can earn with the20 hour paid work you and your husband is entitled to, you can go to a jobsite like seek and check out the temporary positions.

It's good to look out at all the possibilities before you decide to move. I know of some people who moved to Sydney on a student visa and found it very hard initially because they didn't do their homework properly about cost of living, jobs and so on.

Good luck with everything.
