Default How does the impact of the 1 Jul 2012 Skillselect would affect 457?

Hi Forumers,

I am new in the forum, tried to find the answer for the above, but can't find. Either it was buried in the tremendous amount of discussion topic or it was not there at all.

Understood that from 1 Jul 2012 the 175 Visa granting method would be changed to "Skill Select".
My question is: is there any other type of visa affected by this regulation? will 457 be affected, in case one is trying to make their way to migrate to Oz by 457 route?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
There are certain types of visa which gets effected by skill select but not all. On DIAC website the below info. is mentioned in regards to skill select.

From 1 July 2012, if you are interested in the following visa programs, you will need to submit an EOI and receive an invitation before you can apply for a visa.

Independent Skilled Migration
State or Territory Sponsored Skilled Migration
Family Sponsored Skilled Migration
Business Skills.
You can also express interest in the following visa programs on your EOI to be selected by an employer.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
Regional Sponsored Scheme (RSMS)
Temporary Business (Long Stay), subclass 457 program.
You can express interest in a range of skilled migration programs in one EOI.

New skilled visa subclasses will be introduced on 1 July 2012 and more information about these visa subclasses will become available in April 2012. If you are interested in submitting an EOI you should return to this website in April to view the new visa options.

Regarding the employer sponsoring a skilled worker...

Do I have to use SkillSelect to sponsor a skilled worker?

No. Employers who identify people through their own selection processes will still be able to sponsor them.

Visit the link below to get a clear picture regarding skill select.

Thanks aus_immi.

I read the same way like you do. I was just puzzled by the statement in the page stating that 457 could also be going thru EOI.

I just am womdering if Employer will "have to identify" from the pool of EOI at DIAC? Or they could (also?) identify the potenial employee themself.

Well, maybe we should wait for the updates by April

It is not necessary that employer has to identify/select from the pool. He can use his own resources/sources to get people on board.
Skill select will only be of any help to employer if he do not have resources to get people on board. More or less, right now, skill select looks like one big source for of resumes/cv's from which employer can choose from if we wishes so.
