Default What facilities are provided to PR by govt/state?

I`ll be moving to South Australia soon on 176 visa with my wife and 2 kids. Do you know what exactly facilities are provided by govt/state to permanent residents? I`ll appreciate your replies.

What do you mean facilities? I think you mean school for your kids, bar a nominal fee for books and equipment.

Medicare, although that is a co pay system and you pay taxes to cover it.

Child related benefits.

As a new migrant you can not claim unemployment benefits, in fact you can not claim much for 2 years!

The child benefits are assistance if you are on a low income & help with child care costs. If your income is too high or you don't pay for childcare you won't get it!

Medicare is the care you receive from a GP or hospital!

Schooling is either free or very low cost at almost all state-owned schools, except for books, stationery etc.

There are schools which are semi-private which will charge a moderate fee, and then there are fully private schools which can charge whatever they want.

You cannot claim unemployment benefits for 2 years.

Medicare is a federally-administered healthcare subsidy program; with a medicare card, you can visit most GPs for a small fee. Some will not bulk-bill, but make you pay upfront and reimburse the government contribution to your bank account.

It also covers medication. Medicines listed on the PBS database are provided at a subsidised cost, but if the price is below $35, you'll pay upfront the entire cost. Medicines not listed on the PBS are your responsibility, and you will pay the entire cost for them.

The South Australian Government has taken back the On Arrival subsidised accommodation facility long time back. Only an information session and skill recognition services are available for new entrants right now.

You may find more informations on the SA government's Migration web site: Home :: Make The Move

OK, then can you please tell what are the benefits can a PR get after 2 years from the state or government?

Not very much unless you are unemployed and the family have no income and your family savings and assets are below $6000.

Oh to add, there is a benefit called Aus Study which students can claim to support them through education, from age 16 right through to the end of undergrad university. It is means tested on the whole family income and savings.

There is also a benefit for parents who stay at home to care for the children, again means tested but if the working partner is on a low income it is useful.

But neither can be claimed until you have been living in the country for 2 years.
