Well what a very good morning this has turned out to be, checked the process of our 457 visa this morning and the shock, it has been granted.

applied for on the 4th September and granted on the 18th (RESULT)

Wow that was quick! I take it that type of visa granted quicker than 175?!! Can I ask did you apply online? If so did you get an automated reply asking for documents etc as well as medicals and x-ray? We applied 12th Sept and they have asked for medicals but I believe it still takes about 10 months for CO to be allocated so not sure what to do!! We thought we'd just leave it a couple of months!
