Hi. I'm an merchant sailor living in Liverpool. I have an American US Coast Guard license to work on ships world wide. There is a new USCG ruling that states American Merchant Sailors need to have a Physical done every two years by 'a licensed American doctor'. Needless to say, traveling to America every two years just to do a physical is expensive. ~~~~Is there anyone on this forum that is a doctor, physician assistant or nurse practitioner that has a US license to practice living over here in the UK?~~~ If so, please reply to this thread.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has a similar requirement for U.S. licensed pilots. The FAA has authorized Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) in many countries outside the United States to conduct pilot medical exams. You could check the AME list and start telephoning to see if any of them also meet the Coast Guard requirement. There are 24 AMEs in the United Kingdom, so there are several possible candidates -- or at least one of them might be able to provide a referral. I don't see any AMEs in Liverpool itself, unfortunately.
Most excellent! I haven't checked into AME's site yet, but that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm getting on the phone tomorrow. Thanks for the avenue to pursue.
