Default help please

Hi

My husband and i want to live and work in the us but have no idea what to do first. My husband is a CNC machine operator in the uk (computer numerical control)
he has completed a four year apprenticeship and has worked for the same company for nearly 18 years but they have no offices in the us so getting a transfer is not an option we are both in our early 30s and have no children and have around $250000 to take with us any advice would be great help.

Thanks!

I have a horrible feeling that the only option open to you is the E2, but nothing you have so far written would suggest it was particularly suitable for you. There are plenty of other countries to emigrate to. I'd look at them first if I were you.

Unfortunately, the US is rather fixated on college degrees (actually university degrees) as "proof" of having a viable profession. Apprenticeship programs are few and far between in the US, and I don't think they count for much in the immigration process.

Ideally, you'd have to find a job in the US where the employer would be willing to do the visa paperwork for you, and that generally takes some skill or experience that is lacking in the US.

The investment visas generally take $500,000 or more, plus some experience of being an entrepreneur. (The posted threshold is somewhat less, but rumor has it that, as with many things in the US, more is better.)

Canada is really nice - and they have a skilled worker assessment. If you check their immigration requirements you might find something there.
Cheers,
Bev
