Hi All,
Thanks for all of the advice. I've been in Canada for the past week and I haven't had a chance to check the forum for a while... On the subject of bank accounts, I opened an account in Hawaii using only my passport as identification (this was before I got my SSN). I think I'll probably try getting TINs for my wife and kids and then applying for health insurance with Kaiser. Until we can do that I'll probably just have regular travel insurance in case of emergency. I'll repost after it's finally settled to let anyone who's interested know how it went. Thanks, CanadianInHawaii |

So I finally got health insurance for my whole family. In the end all I did was mail in an application to Kaiser Permanente along with a letter explaining my family's circumstances (no TINs) and they accepted it. Done.
Thanks to all for the advice, CanadianInHawaii |
