Another option could be to get a job their in a company which has offices in US. They can then file an L1 for you.

The L1 visa is really the "A ticket" visa, but be aware that it is only eligible for higher level jobs (usually managerial or technical/research positions). You also have to have worked for the company for at least a year - and every company I know of has its own internal politics to determine who is eligible for an international transfer of any sort.
Cheers,
Bev

Bev, I agree that you have to be with a company for a certain time, but I do not agree that these are for high level only. L1 visas are of two type, L1A (manegarial) and L1 (similar levels for H1B). So that could still be an option if all else fails.

The only thing with the L class visas is that you have to deal with the internal transfer policies of the company you're working for - and many companies do limit who they will consider for overseas transfers. There may have been some recent changes to the requirements, but according to the US Consulate in Paris, L visas are for "managers or executives of multinational corporations."

(I'll be the first one to admit that the Consulates often aren't up to date on recent immigration changes - it's the main reason I had the immigration hassles I did in coming to France.)
Cheers,
Bev

I meant for L1 to be a king of "last resort" since H1Bs are lotterys these days. So it would be like hitting a jackpot in powerball to get it. I mean its not certain. But I agree that L1 has its own issues.

But yes, I am certain the L1 is for two categories, one for managers and other for all other stuff.

Cheers,
