Default EAD Work Permit

Hi all -

Newcomer here investigating to move from London to Chicago under the L1-A program which my company believes I qualify for.

I understand from googling that my wife is able to work if she successfully applies for an EAD card. What exactly is involved in the process of getting this authorization? Is it as simple as filling in the form, paying the money and waiting? Or is the process is bit more complicated with qualification requirements etc?

Assuming it's a simple process how long could we expect to wait from the day we arrive (so to speak) until my wife could work?

Thanks in advance for the help.

H

Believe you can file on line these days. No special qualifications other than being an L2 visa holder are required. Apart from the money there's also a fun visit for biometrics. She can't apply till she arrives here, and you should budget 90 days for the EAD. Many are quicker, though.
