Question Help please??

Hi there, ill tell you all a bit of my history so i dont confuse you too much,
I married my hubby 6 yrs ago in the US, i got my green card etc, but was still waiting on my permanant residancy, i was there 8 mths. My Father became ill, so we decided to move to Australia for a while, so my case was deemed 'abandoned'

Well we have been here nearly 5 yrs now and we are wanting to move back to the states, now i know there is DCF here in australia, but we would have to fly over to Sydney (im in perth) for the interview, and the flight will cost us $800, it's only going to cost another $500 to go to the States, so would it be a better idea to go to the states on the Visa Waiver, then after a little while apply for the I130 over there?
It just seems like alot of mucking around with flying back and forth to sydney, getting Hubby's dad (co-sponser) to have to send us all his forms etc, i would have thought it would be quicker doing it in the States?
so if you have any advice for me that would be great, as you can see im very confused with this whole process LOL

The major issue with your route is that it is fraudulent to enter the US as a tourist with the intention of remaining. Many do it and successfully change status, but a few come a nasty, nasty cropper. Are you feeling lucky?

Unfortunately you will have to deal with the "mucking around"; particularly as you already have a record of abandoning a GC.

It looks like there is a consulate, but maybe they don't do immigration.

Have you called them?
