Default Married in U.S and moved back to U.K 2 Years ago, Marriage question

I am a British citizen and moved to the U.S in 2001 and married a U.S citizen and lived their for 10 years. We split up 2 years ago and it prompted me to move back to the U.K and carry on with my life back home. I have no contact with my ex-wife as she refuses to reply to any emails or phone calls and has cleared our bank account and sold all our items we had purchased over the time period, also stealing my green card, ssn card and bank cards. I don't care about the material things, and just want to move on with my life.

I am looking to remarry this year in July, and because of the situation I am wondering what the best options are and the questions I have are:

1. Can I remarry here in the U.K without any documents from the U.S marriage
2. If not, what is the quickest way will divorce or Null the wedding
3. If I need paperwork can I use a U.K attorney

Thanks for your help in advance!

Go see a divorce lawyer in the UK ... it should not be too difficult for them ..
or get a local US divorce lawyer to do it .. a phone call and a credit card is require

your green card is now void anyway

Go to one of the law web sites for US and post your question there how to get a divorce. You'll probably get a good few responses and then be able to determine if US lawyer is best for you.

a. you are legally married thus need to divorce prior to a new commitment
b. you can only have a marriage "nulled" which was not consumed.
c. as she refuses to have contact with you contact an attorney specializing in divorce law in the state you lived in. personally i would talk to one in the uk first, get input and rates. there are very legit sites which list attorneys and their pedigrees. often the initial consultation is free of charge. make sure you know about billing up front!
