Default San Francisco - Family Networks

Hi all, firstly thanks for this forum, I've already taken a great deal of good info from it.
We are going to be moving to the US early to mid next year with my company who are based in Redwood City.

I have a good grasp on the areas to live, but my main question and concern is how connected they all are for families moving in.

My wife and our 18 month old son will be coming with me and I want to make sure that we pick somewhere to live that has an accessible network for my wife to meet people and good groups and nurseries.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am not sure exactly what you are looking for. I lived in the San Francisco Bay area for many years. I am assuming that you want to live in areas that are more family oriented where she can meet other parents and has nurseries nearby. Pretty well anywhere from San Mateo south to San Jose will be OK. Some neighborhoods will be better than others. I would do an on-line search for nurseries in each of the cities on the peninsula which will give you a pretty good indication of where the families live.

There are plenty of groups - clubs, associations, private facilities - in the SF area that would help your wife and child get integrated into the community. Normally, when moving to a new area in the US, the advice is to either volunteer or take a class. Young mums often find other young mums through the various child care facilities or nursery schools nearby. There are often groups for young children at local libraries or through some of the churches, if you're of the church going persuasion.
Cheers,
Bev
