Default Usa?

hello
i currently live in my home country of england. My husband and i have just sold our house and are now wondering where to go in life.
we have 2 daughters aged 7 and 5 i am 31 and my husband is 34. he is a carpenter and he has been lucky enough to have work throughout the recession.

i have always liked the idea of living in america. i have visited new york as a tourist.

i dont even know where to look in america and where is a nice safe enviroment to bring up children and has good job prospects.

are carpenters needed in america?

i hope that someone can advise me on this. ?

thanks in advance

jo

Take a good look at the stickies at the top of the America forum listings. There's one called Looking to live in America? This will help! that will give you a sort of a checklist of what might give you claim on a visa to live and work in the US.

It's not particularly easy these days - not in America, and not anywhere else - generally you need a job (with an employer to sponsor you) or family (again to sponsor your visa application). There are a few other ways to go - but check out the sticky messages and you'll see what your options are.
Cheers,
Bev

Unfortunately due to the housing crisis, there is not much work for construction workers. We lost over 100,000 construction jobs just in the county that I live in. It is very slowly improving but it will be quite some time before there is much work for carpenters. There a few areas like North Dakota that have lots of jobs. The unemployment rate in North Dakota is only 2.6% vs 8.3% for the nation.

It is impossible to give you an answer regarding where to live without knowing what you are looking for. The US is a large country with thousands of good safe areas that are good for bringing up children. What kind of climate do you want, 4 seasons, warm, hot, rainy, etc.? Do you want lakes, mountains, desert, ocean, etc.? Do you want to live in a city, rural, farm, etc.? In other words, you have to be more specific in what you are looking for before I or anybody can help you.
