paying/claiming vat

Hi everyone, could someone tell me if we have to pay vat for goods/services in the uk even though we are living in the us. we are selling our house and the vat on the solicitors and estate agents add up to over 1000 gbp, is there a way we can claim this back or not.......heres hoping
