Default clock has started ticking!!

Well we finally got notification that our application is with Vermont Service Centre for processing!!! Thats a good sign right?? Their time frame says that if they are working ahead of themselves they will give the standard time of five months for a spouse visa - filed by my US husband in Ohio with me waiting in England. Upon checking that is what they have recorded - 5 months! Seems a lot more real now we have some acknowledgement and movement.

My main concern now is this... Having got divorced a couple of years ago and moving around - my ex left me with an indescribable amount of debt... Having spent two year working my way out of it it now appears that I have a CCJ against my name. This came to light last month - Being someone who has never eeen in trouble with the law ever - not so much as a parking ticket - has filled me with dread. I have it in my head that although I am dealing with the CCJ and paying the debt off - this will end my chances of being allowed to join my husband? If this is the case - I may just kick a bunny!!!!

Tighten the belt, find a part-time job, take to the creditor, ... I do not know if CCJ reflects on your police record or just on your credit record. Anyone have the answer to that?

OP did not answer my question regarding CCJ. As with almost everything - it depends. Non-payment can easily get you a conviction in the US.

civil debt can never get you a conviction in UK or US
unless it was fraudulently obtained ( fake names etc)

It was certainly a debt of the marriage - stupidly in my efforts to work my way out of it - it ws a complete oversight - I am now dealing with the matter - I do not intend to shirk my responsibilities - and will pay the debt off. I just wondered whether it would make a difference - My ex husband did a good job of stitching me up it seems.

As long as it does not reflect on your police report you are in the clear. As you say "ex". You are working on a new future:>)
