Also, some regions are just friendlier than others. I know several people who think it is hard to make friends in New England, for instance.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found New England to be that way!! I thought it was just ME they hated! I met my fiancee there, but he's from Brooklyn himself and he finds Boston very little better than I do. New England doesn't seem to only hate immigrants, they hate "Injuns" too.
