I think it comes down to what you can afford and what finances you have....
Some people like the security of keeping their house and renting it out - especially with the exchange rate at the moment it may be difficult to earn enough to move back to the UK, if that's what you wanted to do.
We sold our house in the UK since we have no intention of returning to live there.
We felt that Australia is such a big place that if we didn't like where we chose initially then we could move on.
The money from the house also gave us a good start here and it helped us to look at ways out of the rat race
