If you have a non-UK EEA passport, then it will be as you describe. After marriage your new husband will apply for his resident card under EEA2, valid 5 years and will attain permanent residency after that.

If you have British passport, unless there are special circumstances, the procedure will be similar to what I've described to the OP.
