Hi and welcome to the site. I think you are correct but taking duel citizenship can cause severe problems as well. For us Americans it (I think) causes a total loss of social security benefits as well as possible other problems as well. Not advisable!
Better if you want to buy land to do so in the name of your Filipina wife/GF and then have a long term lease on the place to cover yourself.
