If you're covered by the French health care system (which I'm assuming you would be as an EU national who qualified for an EU pension somewhere along the way), prescriptions are normally covered by a combination of the national system and a mutuelle. There is a program to help those with limited resources get a break on the cost of a mutuelle - but it's geared to your income, not your age.
