I am a student at NYU and I am registered to go to Paris for the next 5 months. I had a family crisis to attend to and needed to go home. My train didnt get me back to NYC in time and I was late for my visa appointment. I am supposed to leave August 31st but there arent any available appointments until September 9th. I have called the NYC consulate and have been very unhelpful, even rude. I asked if they had any advice and all they said was to check the website to see if there are any cancellations. I have spent all day hitting "refresh" and nothing has opened up. Am I supposed to stay glued to my computer for the next few weeks in tears?

Has this happened to anyone? Please let me know.

Merci!!
Here's a long shot you can try. I know you're supposed to go to your servicing consulate but try this:

Service area: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Ohio, Pensylvania, Virginia, West Virginia.
Offices are open to the public from 8:45am to 12:45pm on weekdays.
Location: 4101 Reservoir Road N.W.
Washington, DC 20007, USA
Phone: Embassy — (202) 944-6000 ; Consulate — (202) 944-6200 ;
Fax: Embassy — (202) 944-6072 ; Consulate — (202) 944-6212

The lady at the Washington DC Consulate who makes the appointments is very helpful and sympathetic. Plead your case and maybe they can bend the rules. I've noticed certain rules are pliable. If you get a no, try the Consulate in Boston.

Good luck and let us know if it works.
