Hello again,

I think you are getting confused with another (perhaps skilled) visa? The 457 does not usually come with an initial entry date. The entry is usually very much driven by what the employee and employer have agreed. For example, if your employer says that s/he wants you to start on 5 August 2008 then as long as you have the visa, you better be there by that time. But if you do not get there by that time the visa will not be cancelled as it is not actually a visa condition.

Equally, the 457 does not have a 5 year "expiry date".

The expiry of the 457 visa is again very much employer driven. Usually though, the visa is granted for the maximum period available - the full 4 years. So again I am not sure where you are getting 5 years from? No 457 visa can be granted for 5 years.
