You could look at another option, which would be for you to apply for your 457 visa and have your boyfriend apply for a working holiday visa.
This way both of you can come to Australia at the same time, live together and build up your spouse credits (proof that you both are in a committed and caring defacto relationship). The working holiday visa is valid for 12 months and can be renewed. Once the two of you have enough proof of your defacto relationship you can then add him onto your 457 visa at a later date.
