Thank you for that website Michelle, it was very helpful.
It seems that many private health care insurers will not cover any pre-existing conditions - full stop. But there are a few that will provide cover, however only after 2 years of being a member. Even then they will want to see the medical history and still reserve the right to exclude treatment for anything related to the condition. So I think we will have to rely on the NHS at first, speak to a good GP who can advise us further, give us an idea of how fast my husband can expect to get treatment if he starts showing any signs of a problem. From there we can make a decision whether to go private or not.

Regarding GP's, I believe you have to register with one in your area? What happens if you register with one and decide that you dislike him/her can you change GP's easily? And if you move to another area, can you stay with your old GP? Also, I have some allergies for which I receive homeopathic treatment, here medical aid covers homeopathic/naturopathic treatments does the NHS cover those or do you pay cash to see a homeopath? Thanks again for helping with all my questions.
