You have to answer 2 questions:

1. If you have a new counter, your whole electrical installation will have to be checked. Inspector are sometimes very biased, and will indirectly compel you ( done by a French artisan ) to redo the whole installation.

2. From 1.1.2009, there will be for house sales and rentals a "diagnostic éléctrique".

Does that influence you on the question of doing it yourself?
