I'm not really able to offer any real advise, but you sound so deflated!
Your husband works in the North Sea, right? That's a helluva long way from Brissie...... would he not consider a job in Oz? Even on a temporary basis it might be the decider.
I believe there are many mining/ drilling/ engineering companies out there; although he would have to work full time for the duration of a sponsorsed visa....
Have you checked on the DIAC website, or with Australia house? Don't mean to sound condescending, but sometimes people miss the obvious!

BTW, where would us girls be without a hairdresser? Which reminds me, i need a cut.
