Blimey, you've been through it haven't you!!! It sounds like a very frustrating time for you.

Our rental agreement was in my husbands name only and I didn't have to provide any references at all (we live in Victoria). I guess it took about a month for my husband to get his TFN.

It wasn't plain sailing for us either, but not as difficult as you've had it
At Centrelink we ended up having to register 3 times. 1st time we registered on our validation trip, we were back about a month later but the application only lasts for a month so it had lapsed (no-one told us). So 2nd time we applied but was told I needed a TFN. Person dealing with us said it would be alright and just to phone them when I received it. Duly did so to be told I was a day too late so I have to go back to Centrelink and register (3rd time).

Also on our validation trip, we activated our bank accounts. A lot of keywork was inputted onto a computer and off we went. The first time we tried to use our debit card it kept being rejected. Went back to the branch to be told totty had forgotten to tick the box to allow 'cheque' transactions....!!!
