London is pretty expensive, but if you find it difficult to survive (I don't know what you're used to by way of standard of living) the commutes around here are not bad by train. I wouldn't suggest driving into - or in - London though.

I know a few people who live in Brighton and work in London. They're pretty happy with the arrangement.
