I moved to Australia so I don't have any personal knowledge of moving to NZ so can only give you general answers.
If you want to buy a place quickly will you be looking as soon as you move out there? I don't know what the property market is like in Auckland but it may take a while to find somewhere so you may want to rent for a while. Are you looking for property before you go over? You may find something at

Does your NZ visa allow you to buy property? Things are possibly different in Oz where permanent residency is needed to buy a property or special approval.
