Hi Scottishcelts,

I can't answer the question about supermarkets in Brisbane but the ones we've been in are very different from the UK style of supermarket.

The ones here sell food but don't always sell anything else like clothes, CD's, electrical stuff or anything like that. Our ones don't have a pharmacy in them either but the local pharmacy stays open to 9pm here. Big W is the exception I think (I've only been in one once in Melbourne since our local one hasn't opened yet). Aldi seems to be the same as the UK in that it sells food and other bits & pieces but I'm not sure how common they are.

The supermarkets we have locally are Coles, Woolworths (not like Woolies in the UK and part of Sainsburys here), and IGA.

Regards,
Karen
