France is a tough country for foreigners, particularly anglophones (or as they call us here, "anglo-saxons"). There are lots of great things here (especially in the eating and drinking department), but there are cultural differences that will drive you absolutely insane.
It really helps to be running "to" someplace like France rather than running "from" something or someplace. Chances are, you won't escape anything here, and you may well find an even greater source of aggravation. But if you have a reason to want to be here and to stay here, the other stuff will ultimately work itself out. (In my case it "only" took me seven years to come to terms with France.)
Cheers,
Bev
