A good website to look at for properties in London is
Properties for sale, homes to rent, overseas property, retirement properties and new homes on rightmove.co.uk and they cover the whole of the UK. A good area is going to be expensive, but I would recommend NW London and parts of North London, such as Highgate and Muswell Hill to begin with.
