My boyfriend's company was willing to pay for us to ship our stuff out here, but they wouldn't just give us an allowance to buy things when we arrived. I kind of wish they had because the shipping company really gave us the run-around as far as the timing of our stuff arriving was concerned (still waiting on it.. first ETA was 25 mar, then it became 26 apr, now it's 12 may). It cost about US$5000 to ship slightly less than a 3 bedroom house. Now with all these specials that furniture companies are having here, you can furnish a home for $2000-$3000 in some package deals so it would've been better to sell our big stuff and buy it here. Also, unlike the US, a lot of furniture here is solid wood, not MDF, so you get a much better quality product for a lower price.

The dog is gonna end up costing about $5000 when it's all said and done.
