it depends on which visa
i think there may be one or two that requires you to provide info on how you would support yourselfs but on a permanent residency visa (175) you dont need any savings or proof of, i think a student visa is one visa that you have to show you could support yourself for a period of time as you are only permitted to work 20 hrs during term times,
best thing would be to contact an agent, their initial consult is normally free and that would give you enough info to make a decision on what you want to do. agents can be expensive once you have actually employed them to manage your visa application, but some people choose to go it alone, good luck whatever you decide,
