Yes I have picked up that the sound frequency seems to be the problem with TV's which is sad as I have a brilliant TV which will cost a fortune to replace. Somebody gave the tip of the New Zealand forum about just buying a replacement DVD machine and then using that to convert into your UK TV, but I already have such a conglomeration of cables around the TV that I would not want to add to the total and complete confusion.
Yes pricing the white goods is what prompted the question as those are things which are cheap in the UK and a good Indesit one can get for A$500 and I have worked shipping out to be about A$50 extra based on the volumetric quote I have. Guarantees are obviously a problem. We need to buy as the house we are renting has it all.
Thanks for the furniture reference, had a quick look and I will now price our house furniture with that and see how it compares.
Second is not an option and I agree that is usually items on the brink of dying completely.
