No the time spent inside can be past the last date on the original
PR visa. Therefore you would be eligible for your RRV as long as you had accumulated 2 yrs out of the last 5 in AU.
The RRV mainly is so you can return to AU as a
PR, but you don't lose your
PR if you are resident in AU.

one more question:
for the 5 yrs RRV, we have to fullfit the requirement of 2 out of 5 yrs...would they count within the PR visa validity period only? (since my PR visa will be expired 7 months later --July2010), it seems even I land today I may not have sufficient staying time for the 5yrs RRV requirement?
without a RRV means that I need to stay Australia and no travel for 4 years?
