The rental system is run on a points system.
You need 100 points.

Drivers license 30 points.
Passport 30 points.
Proof of age card 30 points.
Previous rental documents, eg; rent book, bond receipt, 4 rent receipts. 25 points.
Pay slips or utility bills. 15 points.
Birth cert. 10 points.

If you are a home owner you should bring a reference of mortgage payments, contract of sale documents and bank account statements.

I lived in Oz about ten years ago and I do know that rental agencies are pretty strict in their policies.

Hope this is of some use to somebody.

Best of luck all.

Hey Irish sparks, very uselful info indeed. What a nightmare though, how the heck is that any help to new migrants? Surely there must a load of migrant landlords out there who themselves were once in the same boat that understand the difficulty of renting in Oz! Especially if you are willing to pay several months rent in advance.

Might be something for Aussie landlords to think about.
