Hi vxp,
If you get sponsored you'll be restricted to the area that you move to, whereas if you come in the skilled independent route then you can chose where you want to live.
For IT it seems that Sydney and Melbourne are the places to consider unless you can get a contract with previous clients. The reason I add the last bit is that I'm a JDE World contractor and I'm hired by a company in the UK and I work from home. However the company is one I used to work with before I left the UK.
Since I didn't have any qualifications either my husband was made first applicant (he's a gardener) and that way although I still had to be approved by the ACS ( I was already a member of the British Computer Society so no big deal) I didn't have to go through the RPL which would have been a pain since I'd been a contractor for 10 years.
There are 2 agents on this forum who are based in Oz - Liana Allan and Alan Collett if you want to contact them. I don't know of any emigration in the agents in the USA but of you check the MARA or MIA sites (see "Please read " post under migration agents) you may find some near you.
Regards,
Karen
