Yes I think that's it. But it's strange in that I phone them more than when I was in the UK, see them more (yes I know it's through Skype), and I actually listen to them, whereas before I took them for granted. However I don't see how not talking to me at all is going to help the situation. We feel sad because we love each other, but I know (and hopefully they do too) that we will see each other once or maybe twice a year. When we do see each other it's for a month at a time and it was so fantastic when we took my parents to the Grampians and they saw kangaroos and emus etc.
I would rather have the sadness and the love than not have the love at all. If that makes any sense.
And you're not prying. If I didn't want to share I wouldn't have put it on a public forum

Thank you for sharing what you feel too. You obviously love your mother too.
