Hi RGKB70,
Welcome to the forum.
Australia has the same problems as every other country. However Australia is a BIG place and it's hard to make generalisations here that cover the entire country since it is so different.
If you look at the Australian Bureau of Statistics
Australian Bureau of Statistics they will give you loads of stats but I couldn't find any comparisons.
It really depends on what you are comparing it to. I lived in a town in Hertfordshire, just North of London where the town's claim to fame was that someone was burned alive minding his own business. There were regular fights in certain parts of the town, and on one occasion a small riot. People were scared to walk the streets at night because of the people that came out of the pubs drunk and then trouble started.
Here we can walk the streets at night, we don't know anyone that's been burgled (we've been here since July 2007), although we were burgled twice in the UK.
Locally there is more a problem of young people killing themselves through street racing since they end up crashing into each other, or something more solid than a car!
Some local papers are online so you can check thouse out for the areas that you are thinking of moving to, but remember that newspapers generally only print the bad news and not the good news.
Regards,
Karen
