Hi,

I've just been accepted to study for my PhD at the Universite Paris Sud 11 in Orsay, south of Paris.

I would just like some information on the area as it seems rather suburban and was wondering if it would be better to live closer to Paris along the RER B somewhere and if so, where would be best to live to be able to commute to both.

Also are PhD's paid the same as in the UK i.e. tax free?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
