Your situation would depend on two things - your age (over 60?) and whether you receive social security or other guaranteed monthly income (such as a government pension). Assuming the answers to both questions are no, it would be very difficult to live long-term in Thailand. Consider Malaysia - you're close enough to go to Thailand whenever you want to, and there are no hassles there with extended stays, regardless of your age or income. Still cheap, still quick internet, better variety of food and better infrastructure - and the main language is English, which is a real plus.
