1) If the application process takes longer than expected can we still head out in December with me entering NZ on a visitors visa (which lasts 6 months) and get the visa from the embassy in NZ?

2) We have been trying for a baby and in light of the recent news about pregnant temporary residents being sent home to have their babies we were wondering if it might be a good idea to wait in case we are successful and I end up being 6 months pregnant when I arrive and they don't let me into NZ. Could this be a problem anyway as it now says that being pregnant is no longer considered appropriate standard of health...(although I've had my medical already)?

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated

Hi there,

as far as I know NZ is one of the few countries in the world where you can apply for a visa from WITHIN NZ, so your first question shouldn't be a problem.
With the second question, I'm sorry I've not come across that situation before. If what you say is correct i.e. about sending temp residents home to have a baby and 'appropriate standard of health etc' then if I were you, I'd wait until the baby was born.

Just my opinion. I emigrated to NZ from UK in 1997 and now live in Australia (for last 7 years)

Sorry I can't be more help!
