Not having a current passport does not mean you lost your citizenship. Unless you formally revoked it, and sometimes not even then, you should still be an Australian citizen.

Where were your children born? Did you register them with the Australian embassy to get them Australian citizenship when they were born? If not, that's another thing to check into and take care of.
