Default Advice please: Author searching for a country.

Hi All

I need help on shortlisting countries to consider moving to.
There are so many countries on this spinny-round-thing (that we all live on) that I really need help narrowing the list.

Here are our criteria:
I want to spend my time writing, and my wife wants to home-school our three kids.

My investments are bringing in $2500 USD a month. And we want to be able to live on that - so employment in our destination country is not required, but a low cost of living is. We are happy to live without modern luxuries.

Having said that, we would require at least satellite internet - land-line broadband would be better.

We would be very happy to "go native" if need be; and would certainly want to learn the language of our new country.

We have the standard dream of living next to the sea. My wife has visions of a white house on the Med, as do I, but stronger for me are thoughts of the Caribbean. But we are realistic enough to know that being merely near the sea is the best we might be able to afford.

We want a warm clime, not cold. Would want to rent first and then perhaps buy a property.

The areas that seem realistic at the moment are: India, Thailand, Mexico to Venezuela and onwards up the Caribbean chain (Cuba would be very appealing if it wasn't for their restrictions on internet use). I have not come across any countries bordering the Med yet that would meet our cost of living requirement.

So given all that, which countries would suit us? I do hope there will be some.
We are very open to ideas, and are very thankful for any advice you can give.
