How long have you been over here? Perhaps when you go to the UK you're trying to do the same as I do here - look for familiar things? I've only been here 14 months so its still all pretty new to me.

Things like........different crisps (sorry chips), decent curries, ready meals (sorry but I'm no chef!!), cheap 'home brand' groceries which dont taste like crap....etc etc etc

I've been here a very long time, since '66. I wasn't looking for brand names just basic ingredients to cook my italian, chinese etc dishes with. I think the whole grocery scene is different. Aussies mostly cook their own meals or go out to eat. Indian food is the least popular of the Asian foods here. I also feel that the Asian food is more authentic, and nicer, than you get in the UK.
As you said it is what you are used to. Cooking isn't hard. If my sons, who didn't cook much when they were at home, can cook excellent meals now - anyone can.
